Relax, Mama! Childbirth Isn’t That Bad

Samantha Guidry

--

Your body was made for childbirth.

I know. It’s scary af, especially if this is your first child. I was terrified (and excited!) when I saw the two pink lines. Between what you see in the movies, read on the internet, and horror stories from other moms — CRINGE — it’s enough to make you question if having a baby is really worth the pain. But yes, it is really worth it, and no, it’s really not that bad. If you’re pregnant, have due date anxiety, or are thinking about conceiving, I hope this read will bring you some peace of mind.

SHHH! Shut down the negativity

First of all, I have to address all the negative articles and community boards out there. I swear, people love to try and scare you. Just shut it down! I was guilty of reading other people’s birth stories, videos, and it just triggered my anxiety. Trust in yourself, listen to your body, and know that you got this. Don’t get wrapped up in negative commentary; it’s just not worth it.

(Take a deep breath)

Childbirth pain is subjective

Every woman has their own childbirth story, and guess what, that story is not yours. Childbirth pain is pain, but would women have multiple children if it were really that awful? Absolutely not. Remember, pain is subjective. Labor may feel like trapped gas or strong period cramps for some…
