Letting go of a toxic friend is self-growth.

Let’s lay it all out on the table. Do you have a friend (sigh) who’s bringing you down? Feeling like what was once a great connection no longer serves you? If you’re nodding your head yes, then say it aloud, “I don’t want to spend time with <insert name> anymore.” If you feel like it’s time to move on from a toxic friendship, I hope this read will validate your decision to walk away.

Cutting someone out of your life doesn’t make you a bad person. And protecting your energy is not selfish. Here are three signs that it’s time to move on from a toxic friendship.

#1 Spending time together is never easy

Does getting together always require you to make a long drive or extra effort? Or maybe your friend only makes time for you when it’s convenient for them. We all have busy lives, jobs, families, and households to take care of. Keeping a friendship alive requires effort on both ends, it’s not a one-way street, and if your friend isn’t reciprocating the effort, it’s clear that making time or bending for you isn’t a priority. If you haven’t already communicated how you feel, do so. And if there is no change, move on!
