“I feel like an alien!” I can’t even tell you how often I said this after having my son. Who knew you’d also be changing your own diaper for a solid six weeks postpartum? The bleeding, breastfeeding, sore nipples, sleep deprivation, sore nipples, emotional rollercoaster, did I mention sore nipples? Woah! It’s the shit they don’t tell you about that really gets you. But what I found to be the hardest of all was feeling like I had lost my identity.

Bringing a baby into your world is a major life transition, and it’s 100% normal to feel like you lost a piece of yourself along the way. Indeed, your life is no longer your own. But you are still you. And finding yourself again is part of the beautiful and messy journey of motherhood.
